The Challenge
We’re exposed to a lot of information daily, however, do not know who controls what we see and hear, perhaps there exists a different opinion, an alternative view, perhaps we could be empowered with the knowledge to see the world as it really is.
The Solution
I used design thinking to craft a design for the Nile Media TV app, offering alternative media content to users
My Role
I was involved in the latter parts of the user research, the ideation, design and prototyping of the Mobile app.
The Process
The ideation process involved my team doing crazy 8 sketches, then using the “note and vote” method to pick the solution that came closest to meeting our goal of building the user an application that can distribute content that is unbiased.
We prototyped early and tested early too, this method was also cost-effective because we did not spend valuable time developing a solution we weren’t quite sure would work.
Lessons learned
Prototype early: This is helpful for many reasons but I’ll share those that were beneficial on this project, 1. it allows users to give feedback, this will allow you to validate your value promise, and in this case it did. It gives a basis to improve on, once we launched the MVP we could see the areas that needed improvement, we could then plan for coming iterations to improve the usability of the app.
Reflections on my experiences
It was quite a refreshing experience working on this project, I had learnt some valuable lessons from previous projects, and on this one, we settled on designing the application in Material Design, this made developer handoff very easy.
Acknowledgements
I would like to acknowledge Khuba Software Solutions for the opportunity to be contracted to them for this project. I worked well with Sandile and Kola who’s codebase made it possible for this great app to run well.
